Chony's Art School is not an ordinary place for kids who want to improve their art skills; it is also a place that aims to teach children the importance of taking care of the environment. The children, this week, were taken to the beautiful yet delicate ecosystem of the Great Barrier Reef. They watched documentaries, which showed them the wonders and the dealings of the underwater coral reefs and the creatures that depend on them for existence.
To commence the lesson, the pupils were shown films on the Great Barrier Reef which aroused interest in the types of corals and the ecosystem as well as the harmony of components in the system. Using coloring materials inspired by underwater creatures each child drew corals and aquatic animals, which assisted them to come up with structures of their own miniature reefs.
Again, under the direction of Chony, the young artists later took to clay modeling and applied some basic but fundamental building techniques to their coral ideas. The remarkable pieces they created embody both artistry and painstaking effort, reflecting the children’s newfound awareness of the ecosystem they studied. The photographs provided are of these artworks in their pre-painted state, reflecting not only the children’s hard work but also the anticipation of what is yet to come.
Encourage your spirit of adventure with us as we gracefully complete this cycle and the coral reef sculptures turn out to be very beautiful and interesting art; something to do with the environment.
